Aurora, Colorado EMM Volunteers Dedicate One Day A Week to Making a Difference
Kim Allee of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Lalana Benham of Aurora, Colorado have gone the extra mile this Easter to reach out to their communities. Inspired by the book Every Monday Matters, Kim and Lalana have dedicated one day of the week to make a difference in the world. For Easter, however, they wanted “to do something above and beyond,” stated Kim.
Both employees of Oppenheimer Funds in Denver, Kim and Lalana asked for donations from their co-workers and were blown away by the support. They collected bags of toys, candy and even money to then go out and buy enough items to fill 200 Easter Baskets. They then beautifully created and wrapped the baskets and delivered them to the Children’s Hospital in Denver.
“It was such an amazing experience. We thought we were the ones giving, but the reception we received from the hospital employees and the patients is something we will never forget. We truly benefited from this as much as anyone else did. It has inspired us to do more,” said Lalana.
Since Every Monday Matters released in January, it has become clear that this is more than a book…it’s becoming a movement. People’s lives are being changed all over the country as they are now making every Monday matter. By the simple virtue of volume, people are making a significant difference in their communities, schools and country. Kim and Lalana are now starting an Every Monday Matters Team in Colorado. If you are interested in being a part of it, please email them at fineallee@yahoo.com.
“We just wanted to plant the seed in the minds of people that they matter in changing the world. It has been amazing to see how people have taken our concept and run with it.” says co-author and co-founder Matthew Emerzian.
