Every Monday Matters Helps Ordinary People Do Extraordinary Good
A smile is contagious, readily available, and cost free. Making an extra effort to smile at everyone you see is just one of 52 free or nearly free ways average people can make a difference in the course of a day.
Matthew Emerzian and Kelly Bozza, authors of Every Monday Matters have written a simple guidebook of activities giving back to the community, as well as providing social awareness. Cognizant of the busy schedules of today’s families, most activities consume little time, but can result in big rewards of social accomplishment. Plus, each weekly activity is easy to implement.
“We are creating a movement of ordinary people doing extraordinary good. By virtue of volume, the difference will be significant for our children, our communities, and our country … we will set an example for our children to follow; we will leave a legacy for the next generation,” say the authors.
Clearly written and colorfully illustrated, Every Monday Matters uses a three-pronged approach to each proposed activity. The facts demonstrate the need; the action is what you can do, and finally the impact of your actions and how they matter.
Before now, dreaded Mondays were always the day you had to go back to work or school, start your diet or quit smoking again. Every Monday Matters has changed that. Now, each participant has something to look forward to, knowing there is an activity ahead with far-reaching implications. Mondays are now exciting opportunities to do good things for others and yourself. A positive outlook results in a positive person who is more productive and much more pleasant to be around. There is no end to the benefits of making Mondays matter.
One of the suggested activities is to donate blood. Each pint of donated blood saves 3-4 lives and takes only a half hour to give. On another Monday, stop by the fire or police station and thank these first responders for what they contribute to the community.
“Your Mondays will empower you and stretch you. They will provide a sense of accomplishment, make you more compassionate, reward you in ways you never expected, cause you to be annoyed that more people aren’t there to help…and infect you with an enthusiasm that is so contagious that you will get more people involved each and every week,” assert the authors.
