Every Monday Matters Volunteers Deliver Thank Yous to Reno Firefighters at Station 3

LOS ANGELES, CA — March 31, 2008 — You might think today is just an ordinary Monday but for Reno firefighters of Station 3, it was Every Monday Matters’ “Thank a Firefighter Day.”

Victoria Frensdorff, inspired by the book Every Monday Matters which helps people understand what is needed in our communities so that they can make a difference, organized her friends and their teenage children to write and deliver notes of gratitude along with a copy of the book to Station 3 C Shift firefighters. “When the firefighters saw that one of the 52 Monday activities from the book is ‘Thank a Firefighter Day’ they were overcome with gratefulness that firefighters across the country are being honored,” Frensdorff shared.

Alec Hernandez, 13, helped write the letters. “My mom wrote the long ones and I wrote the shorter letters. It was fun getting to meet Reno firemen.” One of the letters Alec shared was “It takes a special kind of person to be a fireman; a fearless yet cautious, selfless, and dedicated individual. Thank you for all that you do.”

According to the National Fire Protection Association, over 1.6 million fires are reported annually. With over a million firefighters in the U.S., 73% percent are volunteers, with 66% percent or more of fire departments staffed 100% by volunteers.
