The Pitch Heard Around The World

I was nervous. Really nervous. First of all, I have not thrown a baseball in years. I play on a softball team, but I forgot how small baseballs are. They are tiny. And light.

Secondly, I have not thrown a pitch from a mound since I was 9 years old. And never have I done it in front of 2,000 people.

Lastly, to make matters worse, there was no opportunity to warm up.

So, it was kind of like “OK Matthew, here is the ball, now go throw a pitch.”

All I could think about was “Don’t hit the dirt,” “Don’t throw it over his head,” “Don’t throw just lob it in there,” etc. I was nervous as heck and my jersey was way too small to boot.

But, I did it. 60 mph high heat. A shining moment for my baseball career and a day that, although I am so glad it’s over, I will never forget.

Thank you to the Colorado Rockies and The Modesto Nuts. I genuinely appreciate what you are doing with Every Monday Matters and thank you for having me throw out the first pitch. Let me know if you ever need a lefty.
